The "Work Blind" Curtain
A while ago I mentioned an idea that I had about creating a "work blind". I actually ended up doing it. I had [info]buttercup666 stand in my neighbor's cubicle and take a picture of me hard at work. Then I straightened the photo, undistorted it, and cropped it to the area in the doorway. I took it to Kinko's where they printed it onto vinyl, and grommeted the top with a kit that [info]matrushkaka bought me. The result: The Work Blind. Think of it as the modern version of Jughead drawing eyes on his eyelids so that everyone thinks he's awake and paying attention all day, or Wile E. Coyote painting a tunnel entrance on the side of a mountain.

Followup article here.

Impressive. A simple idea, well done! I like how the color is a pretty OK match. Good ergonomics and posture. (Is your chair a little low? Try raising it a centimeter.)

I was posing for the camera. My posture is in no way that good regularly.

Nicely done. Judging by the relative size of the monitor and chair in the two shots, you've got the size just about dead-on.

If I were in a cubicle, I'd consider the same; as it is my boss is my officemate, so there's not much hiding.

It works so well because the second photo is taken from almost the exact same point as the original photo. Everything lines up. It doesn't look nearly as good if you view it from the side.

Cost?

The cost was significant for a prank: $275 or so for the printing. It would have been $150 if the width had been 3" shorter: they could have done it onsite, rather than ship it off to the big printer. Also, you can do it a lot cheaper than Kinko's if you shop around and find a small vinyl printing house. At the time I was just moving into LA and time was less plentiful than money, so I didn't shop around that much.

If there is a Nobel prize for screwing around at work, you should win this year.

If not, you should win one of the other Nobels, like the one for economics or something.

Brilliant. My cow-orker who likes to sleep in his office during the afternoon could use one of these. Of course he'd have to add some sound baffling to muffle the snoring.

Man, this is so cool. Unfortunately, your photos here are starting to become unavailable; I think your web host's bandwidth is getting hammered from the links you've been getting. You might want to rehost the photos at tinypic or someplace like that for the time being.
